Company Profile

We are passionate about providing phage-based solutions to achieve your scientific goals.

Cell Origins provides researchers with critical phage-based laboratory services and kits. We focus upon the use of filamentous phage as an inexpensive, reliable, highly stable, and effective replacement for many products currently in the market. We are currently developing a product for identification and phenotypic characterization of commonly used cell lines. Additionally, we provide phage display services including consulting, ligand selections, and construction of libraries.

Origins

Cell Origins LLC was founded by Mette Soendergaard (Ph.D.), Jessica Newton Northup (M.S.), and Leann Kuhlmann Qi (M.B.A) in 2019.

Years earlier, Dr. Mette Soendergaard and Jessica Newton Northup formed and maintained a collaborative relationship while at the University of Missouri, the birthplace of phage display technology. Here, they developed a passion for phage display technology and development of phage-based methods that they now bring to Cell Origins LLC.

The passion of our team for phage-based solutions brought us to address the growing challenge identified by the National Institute of Health; that is the need for a product to verify the identity and phenotype of cell lines. Thus, we are currently developing a phage-based product for identification and phenotypic characterization of commonly used cell lines.

Business Summary

Cell Origins LLC was formed to address a growing challenge identified by the National Institutes of Health and cited within the scientific literature of the need for a product to verify the health of cell lines. In vitro data collected from cell cultures is often problematic due to contamination, genetic drift, and/or inappropriate growth conditions. Cell Origins LLC is also developing dual-display phage to replace antibodies in protein isolation experiments to provide the research community with a more cost-effective and stable solution.

Customer Need

There is no easy method to verify the health of cell lines, resulting in inferior data. Our goal is to help the scientific community standardize cell lines and protocols for use of cell lines by providing scientists the ability to better compare and evaluate data both between laboratories and between in vitro and in vivo settings. Antibodies are often used in protein isolation but suffer from high cost and poor stability. We aim to replace antibodies with low-cost and stable phage particles.

Product

Our first product is a simple and cost-effective kit that can be used by a laboratory of any skill level and any funding level to verify cell line identity and health prior to conducting a study, and a mail-in service for an expanded investigation into cell line identity and health. Second, a protein isolation kit that can easily be used by laboratories to isolate proteins from complex solutions.
