MACOMB, IL – Cell Origins is a story of female power and scientific breakthroughs. In 2019, WIU Associate Professor Mette Soendergaard teamed up with University of Missouri alumni, Jessica Newton-Northup and Leann Kuhlmann-Qi to create something truly special. They set out to standardize lab work using their unique knowledge and experience. It was a bold move, but their hard work paid off when their proposal was funded by the National Institutes of Health. Cell Origins is changing the game by incorporating phage display, the same technique used by the 2018 Nobel Prize in Chemistry winner, Dr. George Smith.
